Made by the Budd Company, famous for their corrugated stainless steel passenger cars, the Amfleet II was Amtrak’s solution to an overabundance of older, worn out single-level passenger cars for short and medium-distance journeys, offering comfortable seating for 55-60 people. Easily identifiable by their distinctive, tubular shape and unique inside-bearing trucks, the Amfleet II is a common sight on short distance intercity trains and Amtrak passenger trains throughout the Northeast corridor.
